Ratter has hit the nail on the head. It all depends on how you copied the CD. If you copied it as an audio CD, then it SHOULD play on almost any other audio playing device. If you copied it in MP3 format, then your CD player needs to be an MP3 player as well, which most are not. The advantage with MP3 CD's, is that you can fit a lot more songs on. Did you burn them as MP3s or audio files, many CD players wont play MP3s
Dunno why it happens derek, I have also had that happen in the past ( burned cd's ), they will play on anything other than the car cd player.

The advantage with MP3 CD's, is that you can fit a lot more songs on. A typical audio CD will hold 20 songs ish at most; whereas an MP3 CD will hold 100 ish songs .... all depending on the length/size of each song.
It is my understanding that older car CD players will Not play a lot of home burnt material. Have you tried playing you CD in another persons car.?

More very informative answers from you great guys as usual. Many thanks.

Ratter's and Gizmo's suggestion is almost certainly the solution. I will try again as an audio CD.

Hans, I have tried the CD on two very new cars and a portable radio/CD player with no joy.
You should solve your problem if you go along with Ratter and Gizmo. However, I hope they will both agree with me that you should avoid burning to Re-writable Discs (CD-RW) which are unlikely to be playable in your car.
You need permanent recordings for most car CD players and this is where you need to record onto CD-Rs.

As I am Not an Audiophile, I have been browsing the Internet to find something in support of my most recent posting. The result is the following link which appears to confirm my view about the necessity to 'burn' onto CD-R. The main reply being from an Audio Engineer. :-
