Hi there my 3 year old cat has suddenly started drinking loads of water. I always leave the tap running for her because she will not drink out of a bowl. Today I was in the bath for 1/2 hour and she was sitting in the sink for the whole time drinking water. I have never seen her drink that much before but of course she might when I am out. I hope she is ok she has loads of energy and eating plenty so no real obvious concerns.

my cat would drink only water , preferably from a running tap too..he was perfectly healthy..
Could be diabetes but unlikely at three years. Worth getting a blood test for peace of mind. Good luck
Take her to the vet to exclude feline diabetes.
I did wiith mine..he just preferred water to milk !...
If she pees much more than usual it would be a better indicator. One of mine sits and watches the water running out of the tap. he has the odd slurp or two of water - it is hard to tell how much they have actually consumed.

I hope that it is just a one-off incident. She is still so young. :-)

My daughter has an electric 'drinking fountain' for her cats. It was quite expensive, but they love it. Makes me want to go to the loo though !!!
If it's sudden onset rather than normal behaviour I too would take her to the vet to make sure - apart from diabetes it could be a kidney problem.
That's very young for a kidney problem so I think that I would be taking her to the vet. I am currently worrying about my 14-yr-old cat's flooding of her litter tray . I took her to the vets' about a month ago and they could not fault her apart from 'getting on a bit'. Since then the litter-tray has become much more problematic - but she doesn't seem to require more water. !!!!
