I used to be able to laugh at religious nutters but I find myself actually start to detest them, all of them... even the wife's mild mannered uncle who wouldn't harm a flea. When he starts to ramble through his rose tinted specs I have to bite my tongue.

Anyway back to why the rant.

I thought about putting my foot through the TV when this Deranged looney- tune popped up on the telly!

I suppose I should have a question.... er.....erm

No...just the rant.

//"We cannot criminalise the Christian faith or anybody's faith in this country,"//

These people have a very wonky way of thinking. The ‘faith’ hasn’t been criminalised.
Talbot I had exactly the same reaction when I saw her on TV last night after her release. What a stupid stupid woman.
thats about right for AB anyone who has an opposing view must be 'stupid'.

have I read this article incorrectly?

quote: Ms Davis stopped issuing licences to any couples - gay or straight - following the US Supreme Court ruling in June that effectively legalised same-sex marriage.

Maybe she should have just resigned and got a job in Walmart
Well, I think it's pretty stupid to knowingly break the law. It isn't in her remit to refuse licences to anyone legally entitled to one. She doesn't make the law and she isn't above the law - regardless of what her religion tells her.
Were you hoping she never got let out?
If this lady makes you so angry I'm surprised you have any tellies left. What with all the head chopping muslim cretins, and their defenders, we have to put up with nowadays.
I'm unsure what you are upset about. Even if religion wasn't the basis of this woman's beliefs she would still hold them Or is the problem no one should believe differently to another ?
There is no point getting angry - although we all have aspects of the world around us that annoy us.

I get upset at the queues of people waiting to add their gloating joy to the deaths of jihadists in Syria. Don't get me wrong, I don't for one moment think that their deaths are not contributing to the overall safety of our country.

But that is not the same as jumping up and down rubbing my hands together with glee like some AB'ers are so keen to do - that to me makes them as bad as the Jihadists who gloat about Western atrocities.

Terrorism is an abhorrent concept, but we don't need to get down in the dirt with the terrorists and gleefully celebrate deaths like they do - that is disgusting.

But to return to your point - the supporters of this woman have to believe that she is being persecuted for her faith, because that gives them a martyrdom complex to rant about. They quietly sidestep the fact that it is the law of the state that has been broken, and that is why she was in prison.

We all have to allow other people different views from us - unless in extreme cases where they cause death and destruction to innocent people, but this deluded woman will be yesterday's news very quickly, so the default position needs to be a gentle shake of the head, a smile, and a reach for the kettle.
Abrahamic religion continues to be the primary inhibitor to the progress of morality throughout most societies on Earth.

Fortunately rather than "fighting for the cause", atheists generally stick to explaining their case for the deprecation of religion.

The greatest problem we face is the intransigence of this archaic dogma and those who justify their actions through the misanthropic vitriol of ancient, arrogant, ignorant misogynists.

Climate change is within the scope of solution by science but I fear we may not be able to provide sufficient antidote to the chronic religious infection of half of humanity.
Many believers here on AB question why atheists are so antsy about religion because from their viewpoint atheists are unaffected by religion. So not many shops open on Sunday, noisy church bells, some days when every shop is closed, the theft of christmas from the pagans, no rail travel on christmas day, women dressed in tents and now christians claiming that the law of the land doesn't apply to them....
What one chooses to believe is solely the responsibility of the believer as are the consequences of those beliefs, those actions which they attempt to justify under the pretence of fulfilling the arbitrary will of an alleged and otherwise impotent non-existent god.
