I got someone to download Windows 10 for me this morning (cost of £120) and it looks so strange. There is a help facility but I don't understand the replies to my queries. Are there any books like the Dummies range, to help with Windows 10?

Windows 10 is free to existing windows users not sure why you paid for it ?
I think you have to have W7 or 8 for the free upgrade but I may be wrong.
You previously posted that you had an offer to download ?

Emeritus - I tried to download the other day but the logo just kept turning and turning. The chap who helps me out with queries remotely comes on to my PC and 'does' things. So I asked him to join up and download for me. I was a bit taken aback at the cost. I shall look at the suggestions offered in other replies. Thanks all.
lyn, if you live near me I'll come and help you out for no cost at all. I'm in the West Midlands.
There are three books on this page, any of which will help you. If you decide to buy be sure to buy the printed book and not the Kindle version:

I suggest you have a look in your local library and see if they have any available to lend.
You are the first person I have heard of who has paid to download Windows 10.

Says little to commend the chap who 'helps you out'. £120 for a new operating system which is still in its infancy.!!!

Hans.

I think you were scammed.

Charging £120 for that is disgraceful.

I think he was taking advantage of your lack of computer skills.

thanks all. I had to leave computer on all night because I cannot find the Start button required to put it off! I can see from youtube helps where the start button should be - it s however not apparent on my screen. I am trying to contact the techy who downloaded it for me. thanks so much for the kind offer of help -sadly I live to far away.
Press the F11 key, lyn, it's in the top row of keys. You may need to press the Fn key as well. Hopefully that will show your Windows icon.

If it doesn't, press the Windows key on your keyboard
You have been ripped off Lyn, you can down load for Free, can you get your money back? If so, do so.
Lyn, just to add, if you have any probs or any other issues regards your PC, ask someone on here, they will help you, talk you through your problem, but for your sake, do not pay.

Again, thanks all. I emailed the techy guy ( who lives abroad) telling him I could not see the Start button. He told me to look for it in bottom left corner - as if I didn't know that! I had to email a couple of times, he would believe the start button was missing. Eventually he tuned in to my computer and fiddled about a bit, eventually he found the button. It was there all the time, hidden, and not showing on my screen. He said it was to do with the resolution. All looks better now. Thanks guys I always get good help on here.
