Description:
It's actually very disorganised and messy in my opinion.
On a recent flight out to Vienna everybody took two bags on board, ie a hold-all/carry-on and a handbag/laptop without any member of staff questioning it.
On the way back, as we queued to board, they announced that only those who had paid extra would be allowed to take two bags on, so I stuffed my handbag into my carry-on, but passengers nearby, who said they hadn't paid extra, just marched on with two bags and nobody queried it.
The problem, JennyKenny, is that the staff who are dressed in easyJet uniforms probably aren't actually easyJet employees. Most of the staff who deal with passenger boarding are employed by ground handling agents such as Swissport or Menzies Aviation. With different companies acting on behalf of easyJet at different airports, it's unsurprising that different standards are applied.
if the overhead lockers are full they may put your bag in the hold anyway (free of charge); so it pays not to be the last person through the gate.

No weight restrictions, as long as you can lift it into the lockers.

I think they also let you take an overcoat/umbrella, walking stick, and bag of duty-frees.
Tell me about it, jno. I was praising Knock airport and the fact it was so small you could sit in the smoking area/bar/cafe and watch the boarding queue go down. Join the queue towards the end and get tagged to put your cabin bags in the hold....

Flight landed 25 minutes early but we had to wait 40 minutes for our bags....

And people slate Ryanair....

I July I went Ryanair and they have strict rules about hand luggage. They recently added that ladies could carry a handbag of strict dimensions. I hunted high and low for a hand bag that fitted their measurements as all my bags are big totes. Well blow me down arriving at the airport to check in I noticed all the other ladies handbags and not a murmur from the Ryan air staff!! I was very annoyed as I bought a bag I did not need.
this is what the regs say:

Can I take anything extra to my cabin bag allowance?

You’re allowed a few things in the cabin in addition to your cabin bag allowance:

an overcoat
a shawl
an umbrella
crutches
a walking frame/stick
one standard size bag of duty free goods from the departure lounge in the airport.

I use Ryanair quite often. You can bring on cabin luggage slightly smaller than easyjet but you can also bring on another bag and never once has the size of my 'handbag' been questioned.
Sharon...I use a canvas beach bag. Just in case I keep another small canvas shopping bag in it (canvas shopping bag from the co-op) so I can unload stuff and hand the spare bag to my OH.
Good thinking Ummm! I will do that next time.
