When I first read about this, on right wing sites, it gave the impression this was in The Guardian. So I did think of it. as a left/right 'thing'.
But on further reading it was clear it had nothing/little to do with them. I think this transcends politics. I'm normally in favour of free speech and hate 'faux' outrage campaigns but thought this beyond the pale.
Hope that clears my position up.
