I was going to update my iPad to IOS8 ...

But here's the problem.

The update is 1.4 Gb

I have 3.2 Gb free

The date won't install because it needs 3.9 Gb free

My Camera Roll (photos) was taking up 1.4 Gb

So, I transferred ALL my photos on to a lappy.

So the Camera Roll is now completely empty. No photos. None. Zilch. Nada.

And ... the Camera Roll STILL takes up 1.4 Gb of space !!!

Does anyone know why? Or how I can clear the space taken up by the Camera Roll?

I presume you're trying to do it via wi-fi and not with the ipad plugged into your contutor?

I believe if you try to update via wi fi it will install the old iOS before deleting the old one whereas, if you do it via iTunes, it should over-write it.
As Zacs-Master says, any upgrade or update of apps should be done via your PC/Laptop to save space on your device.
You need to empty the 'recently deleted' folder - that's where all your piccies are still lurking and using up space

I'm not sure where to find the Recently Deleted folder on an iPad.

:o/
Open 'Photos'

Click on 'Albums' (bottom right)

That works on my iPhone, Dave

But not on my iPad

The only "Albums" on the iPad is the Camera Roll.

Apple are such an irritating company.
Hmmm - perhaps it's only an ios8 feature - sorry :(

So I will be able to clean out my "Recently Deleted" photos once I have IOS8.

But, in order to install IOS8, I need to clean out my Recently Deleted photos.

I can feel a sequel to Catch 22 coming on.
If you clear them on your phone ... I wonder if they will magically disappear on the Padi too ... ?
