We went for a days Cruise from Lydney FOD to Ilfacombe on board the good ship Balmoral. We started at 8.45am. The weather was atrocious, rain and wind so we had to sit inside. Fighting for seats, kids jumping on the seats next to us grrrrr.
It took 6 hours to get there and when we were getting off we were told be back in 90 minutes or we will go without you!
We just had time for a meal when we had to return to the ship. We sailed to Penarth then got a coach back to Lydney. We got home at 10.15 pm. Absolutely shattered. I don't think we will be doing it again as the long voyage down was quite boring stuck inside. There was no commentary so we didn't know where we were at anyone time.
Still you live and learn.
They do sail to Penarth which is a shorter trip so may try that next year.

There was a point, Caran, when I thought that it was going to be 'one of those days'. The first train was on time. The second train was on time. The third train was on time. The fourth train was only 15 minutes late. And then, after all that, the bus driver couldn't get his bus started!
the bus driver couldn't get his bus started!

LOL, was that when the taxi came in, Chris.
Of course I'm up for it, Caran......it wouldn't be dull!!!!...☺

Great gness I'll look forward to it next year!
oh my gawd !.
You can come too, Tony......☺
Only if all life boat stations along the route have been notified.
Dreadful wet boring day here too Caran but at least I stayed dry ..... never set a foot out of the door, cleared out some paperwork, read some mags, sat in front of the fire and caught up with the soaps from Friday night! Hoping for sunshine tomorrow to get outside in the garden!

Aren't wet bank holidays just horrid!
Wuss! I'll bring some water wings...you'll be fine.....☻

Hi, Ann......miserable day here.....x

Oi, I ain't gonna wear no girly swim suit though.
Cheer up there are only 115 sleeps til Christmas :(
Or only 5 sleeps until my hols, Ann :-)
ooo you are so lucky, where you off to Tony? We are caravanning next week - dreading the thought if the weather is like this!!!
Down to Padstow ( Cornwall ) for two weeks this Saturday, Ann.
Hope the weather is kind to us both, Ann.
Lovely Tony - we love Cornwall - DT country ;)

We are only going to a picturesque caravan park about 3 miles away from our house LOL but when the weather is nice, it's a great place to stay as there are several lakes nearby to have nice peaceful walks. If it rains I can go home for a few hours and get warm by the fire LOL. Have a super time x

LOL, only three miles away, Ann. No need to pack then ;-).
At least if you forget anything it isn't far to go to get it.
About 250 miles for me ! ( gawd, I hope we don't forget anything ), eight of us going so even if one of us forgets something it stands a good chance that they could borrow what ever it may be from someone else.

Hope you both have a great time, Ann.

We are off on Friday to France. God willing the tunnel is operating. I do not want to be hold up on the m25 for the foreseeable future.
What a pity Caran.

I have made the trip from Penarth to Ilfracombe, a few years ago, and it was wonderful. But it all depends on the weather. August is a dodgy month to plan anything.....May and June might have been better. Worth trying again.

I had a wonderful trip up into the Brecon Beacons, which is only about 20 miles away, and it stayed dry right up until early evening. Saw some Red Kites at the Usk Reservoir and even managed an Afternoon Tea. Proper rich fruitcake...so much better than all these airy-fairy cupcakes you get nowadays !

Lucky to have all this on my doorstep I suppose, for which I am eternally grateful.
Hi Caran, do you live in Lydney, Gloucs? Reason I am asking is because I have relatives who live there. x
