Some, mainly the left have been criticising Cameron, because of the astronomical rise in the immigration figures.

Well now the Tories are taking action to reduce these figures, some are still not happy.

Interesting to read the Independent's readers comments, now these cannot be classed as right-wing Daily Mail readers by any stretch of the imagination.

// The number seeking safety in Britain is small and entirely manageable, yet we slam the door in their faces by basing life and death decisions on dodgy, discredited reports which fly in the face of all credible evidence.”//

This statement seems to be a dodgy discredited report which flies in the face of all credible evidence....

Are you wanting to commend him for a job well done, AOG?
To use a phrase AOG used recently, Cameron is 'damned if he does, damned if he doesn't'....
It's not as if he's even close to the target.
Half of Eritrea would need to knocking at the door, and constituting about 90% of the total, for that to have any effect(!)
Yes, these Indy readers are even more racist than people like AOG and me.
And note the irritating deception (pointed out in a recent post by, I think, New Judge) conveyed in the term "net migration". So there are as many more (mainly drones) entering as there are (mainly workers) leaving.

But you must agree Bouncer it's a start.

So long as he carries on banging all doors we'll be ok.

Don't hold your breath though, there will be armies of 'ooman rights Lawyers queuing up to take it to the ECHR - with us taxpayers footing the bill no doubt.

What will happen is this, those who have never paid a penny into our once admired welfare state (and that includes the 'swarms' coming into this country), will be able to receive all the benefits free of charge, whilst those of us who have paid into the system, will still have to continue to do so, but they will be means tested before they can enjoy all the benefits.

To those magic words "are you on benefits" will be added "are you new to this country".
That is the problem with trying to work oit what is the right and wrong thing to do. Moral rules/guidelines can often clash. Taking a fair share of refugees is a humane thing to do. On the other hand this country does not border Eritrea so should be taking none in from there. That's before considering other immigration. Genuine refugees ought not count towards immigration goals. They should be processed separately.

I don't understand the benefits system at all. My cousins husband is from Trinidad. He was here for a long time before he was granted a work visa. In the mean time he wasn't entitled to any benefits. They were even checked to make sure their wedding wasn't a sham wedding even though they had a honeymoon baby...

Same with child benefits. We're told that some Eastern Europeans can claim for children that aren't even in this country but when my daughter went to live with her father in Ireland, I informed them and the benefit stopped immediately and they said it was nonsense that you can claim for children not in the country.
