The cardiologist wants to put my husband on statins to prevent him getting a heart attack. It will only be a low dose. Can anyone out there put my mind at rest, please, side-effects wise. Thankyou.

The Cardiologist will have discussed the reasons for suggesting the use of statins and I would take his advice.
Yes, there are , or maybe, side effects with statins affecting some people, the incidence varies from study to study.
I would suggest that you do not Google the side effects as that may put thoughts into your hisband's mind concerning events in the future that may have nothing to do with statins.
One can only try the medication and assess it's suitability over say, a month or so.
they did not suit dad..but not to say the same with your hubby..as Sqad says ..give them a go
I think all we could do would be to tell you of our own experiences, and as no two people are the same, these experiences are unlikely to apply to your husband. The first type of statin that was prescribed for me made me feel quite uncomfortable, so a different type was prescribed, and the problems went away completely. It is a matter of working with the cardiologist to find the statin that best suits the individual.
I've been on low dose statins for quite a while with only good results.
No side effects at all.
I'm on a low dose too and don't appear to have any side effects.
molly........you need to consider the side affects of not being on statins.Low dose (20mg) and a change of lifestyle will have a very beneficial effect.
I have just been prescribed statins due to high cholesterol and the fact I have just been diagnosed as diabetic. So far so good, they seem to be doing the trick and have no side effects. (to date).
i have never had any side effects from statins, been on them a few yrs now.
Hi, can anyone tell me is Bisoprolol a statin?
Yes....I can tell you....it is NOT a statin, it is a beta blocker.
Many thanks Sqad,I knew it was a beta blocker but am not sure what determines a statin reason I am asking is my Mother had a bad reaction with a statin before, thanks again.
One rather unexpected side-effect of going into statins is that it increases the cost of premiums for holiday insurance.
