hi, hubbie tried to plumb in new washing machine in our new house, but when switched on it won't draw andy water, despite the inlet valve (wall) being in the open position.
Is it likely to be more to do with the inlet, or would our movers have done something to the washing machine in transit that i need to undo?

have you tried the inlet valve with a bucket underneath and nothing connected to see if water runs through it?
Have your removers bolted down the drum ?
It will still fill if the drum is bolted.
Is the inlet hose pinched so that water will not flow. This can happen as you push a machine into an under worktop space.
Firstly I would check there is any water coming through the valve, even though it appears to be in the open position. Close the valve first, then disconnect the hose on the outlet side of the valve, then check there's water coming through when you open the valve. Use a bucket to catch water. Reconnect hose to valve if you have water flow. Then do the same but this time disconnect hose at washing machine connection to ascertain you have flow through hose. If all is
well could be the machine is not calling for water. More investigation needed. Is there electric power to the machine ? Check fuse in plug ?
Also check the little blue lever on the inlet hose this can look as if you have turned it on, but has not opened the inline valve. You can carefully turn it on with pliers.
If you still have no water when checking with the hose removed ... Have a look further back along the water supply pipe and check to see if another isolation valve is present (and switched off). Have seen this on more than one occasion when a supply has had a 2nd valve fitted for ease of access etc.

Another reason that hasn't been mentioned .. the little plastic lever on top of the valve may have been forced at some stage and all though it rotates when you turn it. It may well not be rotating the ball inside the valve ... this kind of valve often seizes due to inactivity.
