I'd like to see the pre -war street scape along a residential street in South London. ie how it looked before it was bombed. What buildings were there before the post war replacements.

Does anyone have any suggestions of websites that might be useful to me?

Thanks, had a good search there but nothing for the area.

I'm Looking at maps and lists of bombed streets but not quite finding reference to the streets and buildings that stood there in say the 1930's. Still looking if anyone has any other ideas or useful links.
What's the name of the street?
Which street?
your best bet might just be to google the name of the street +"historic photo" or something like that. Other than that, local councils or museums or residents' associations might have archives of this sort of thing.
If you download and install Google Earth you can go back to previous aerial views of the same place.

So if an aerial view was taken before or during the war you may be able to go back to that view.
Find a Facebook group with a name such as "I grew up in Lambeth (or where-ever)".

Some great ideas there thank you. Especially google earth, which i have but no idea it went back at all.

I've also found BritainFromAbove which is giving me a few aerial views from pre war days although they are not specific and quite a challenge to identify. All good fun.
The local studies sections of libraries are very useful but have relatively little online access - you could do with making a visit and going through real boxes of old photos in their archive.
Another useful source usually available in same location are old newspapers - pictures of street parties, may queens, new shops opening etc all provide the kind of street views you're after. Usually microfilm, seldom online.
