Eye Problems

Is it possible to get a migraine in the eyes, no pain but every so often its like a kaleidoscope image and my head feels strange , and there is a small pain behind the eyes , I used to get this about once a year, but all of a sudden it is happening more often, it very alarming.

Yes...I know it as a "classic" migraine...been having them on and off for years. I was advised to take magnesium which seems to reduce the occurrence.

Well, yes, it is possible but not the first thing that comes to mind with your symptoms.
Are we discussing BOTH eyes?Have you any underlying medical conditions e.g High BP or diabetes?

If they've increased a lot,I would ask for a referral to an opthalmologist...not an optician.

yes have diabetes controlled with tablets and take i tablet for blood pressure, not had eyes tested for couple of years, got my eyes tested with having diabetes in March.

sqad...with my diabetes i get check up yearly at eye hospital to test for glaucoma etc

I get an optical migraine two or three times a year.
My optometrist told me what is was, when I described it to her.
Also told me she gets them as well!
She said my eyes are fine and there are no cause for alarm, which I found reassuring.

Thank you for your reassuring answers , I do seem to panic and assume the worst (fingers crossed ) have made appt with doctor than optician.

I've had that. It's often when ive caught a glimpse of the sun reflecting off a shiny surface, like a car bonnet. I also have had it when someone has taken a photo using a flash. It starts as a tiny shimmering shape that gets bigger and bigger until it goes.

I'm the same as smoneybags, glad to know I'm not the only one this happens to, my shiny grooved drainer can set it off first thing in the morning when I make a cuppa, reflected sunlight shines on it, both doctor and optician say its eye migraine, so don't worry about it now, but glad to know other people get it, and what can trigger it off.
