Off to Paris next week and plan to visit the Versailles Palace.
To that end I would welcome the experiences, thoughts, observations and trip tips of those on here who've already been.

Thanks in advance of any replies made.

Went there several years ago so cannot remember any details other than I thought it was beautiful and well worth a visit.
Try to pre-book admission tickets, the queue can be very long particularly at weekends and holiday periods, but, well worth the wait; absolutely stunning experience.
Was there briefly a good few years ago. You must see the fountains - they're not on all the time so you may have to wait, but well worth it.
Well worth a visit - get there as early as you can because there can be VERY long queues. If you are travelling by car there is a lot of parking at the palace.
I have a rather memory of our visit about four years ago. The queuing to get in was bad enough: but once inside it was like being on the Underground in rush hour. The place was jammed to such an extent that it was impossible to see many of the rooms. It was difficult even moving about. The gardens outside were more enjoyable because I could actually breath out there!

RER C line, though it's closed between Javel and Paris Austerlitz till the 22nd. Dummies' guide here

Would recommend staying in Versailles itself. Charming town, great market and some amazing restaurants. Book the palace tickets online.
I thought Versailles was incredible, but after about the sixth superbly decorated room it was almost overly so. I found myself understanding for the first time why the French Revolution happened. There is possibly no finer example of sticking two fingers up to your people than the grandeur and imposing nature of Versailles palace. But it's well worth a visit.
