Tummy Issues

I've had quite a lot of tummy issues later, have IBS and Bile Acid Malabsorption.

I had a few days of nasty yellow diarrhoea a couple of weeks ago and feeling generally poorly, that has got better (save general cramps, bloating, gas and reflux I get generally) but the last few days I've had really pale floaty stools when I go, a bit like before I had acute cholecystitis. Can't be gallbladder related as I don't have one any more :)

Could this just be related to whatever the bug (I assume) was a couple of weeks ago?

I have heard floaty stools mean you are eating too much fat, but could be an old wive's tale. If I were you I would go and have some tests done.

Hi, thanks for replying. I have heard that too but I don't eat a lot of fat as I can't tolerate it after my gallbladder issues. I will definitely be keeping more of an eye on what I've been eating though.

I'll see if it carries on over the weekend and if it continues (hoping it will just go away) I will ring my GP. I have a rheumatology appointment next week so can also ask them about possible drug liver issues. I haven't been monitored as frequently on my current drug (Enbrel) and my liver seemed to have calmed down after having problems on other drugs previously but I've not had bloods done since April I think it was. Will have some done at my appointment though, they usually include liver ones.
Eve, this sounds like post cholecystectomy syndrome. Google it and or see your GP who will give you some advice.
Nothing to do with infection, but well recognised sequelae of gall bladder removal. There are steps you can take, but your GP will advice.
coeliac disease? suggest yoiur gp does a blood test for antibodies.

Thanks Sqad, I will do. I'm on Cholastagel already (cholesteramine I think?) for the malabsorption, been on it for years, switched from Questran sachets as the tablets are so much more practical and Gastro consultant gave the ok. Will see what the GP says.

I had a coeliac test not that long ago, quite a few months ago I think, to see if that was causing some of the problems with bloating, gas etc... and it came back negative, thank goodness. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Just an update. Ended up going in any way to get an Abscess sorted and antibiotic cream, so it will hopefully drain and clear up a bit before rhumo next week so it doesn't cause an issue with any steroid injections I might get.

Mentioned my gallbladder and post issues and general tummy issues. We are going to keep an eye on it for a week and see how it goes then look at sending off a sample to check for any infection, to rule out any bug then go from there. Given all of the issues generally and factoring in the gallbladder removal though, something needs to be done.

I have already tried different diets and had tests for lactose intolerance and bacterial overgrowth etc... a few years ago at gastro, following my gallbladder removal.

Thank you for all your replies.
Thanks for the update......a very difficult problem.
I know that post Cholecystectomy Syndrome hasn't been confirmed, but your symptoms are very suspicious of this complication.
The cause is unknown.
