/// Can't speak for Gromit, but I wouldn't assume so - the bikes are booked on a credit card, and have to be returned to a docking station after a set booking time - you can't steal them! ///

I bet Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Ltd thought their safe deposit boxes could be pinched also.
Of course the bikes can be stolen.
They are securely docked at either end of the hire, but while the hirer is using them, they are vunerable. The hirer is supposed to secure the bikes properly, but some don't. There is a charge for lost bikes, but the London Scheme has many Corporate clients, who may not be as careful as they should be. The majority of bikes that are 'lost' are actually recovered.

///I bet Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Ltd thought their safe deposit boxes could be pinched also.///

In that case ^^^ they were correct!

I suppose these law abiding Asians went to the docking station armed with bolt cutters and not credit cards. :-)
Retrocop,
People leave them unlocked when they go into shops. No need for bolt cutters.

I admit I did a cursory search for info before posting, so I definitely don't have all the facts to hand so -

apologies to Gromit - thanks for the info.

retrocop - I am not sure bolt cutters would help - aren't the docking stations big hefty pieces of machinery that the wheel slots into? I would suggest that bolt cutters wouldn't help here - but as always, I am open to correction - I don't live in London - can you tell!
The 27 out of 11,000 in 5 years doesn't seem right. Perhaps that refers to the ones that haven't been recovered.

I worked and live in London all my life and I have yet to see a bike docking station so you are not alone. Once hired legally and chained up whilst visiting a shop then bolt cutters would assist. Remember the "Great Escape?"
Retrocop - interesting - I visit London occasionally, and I have seen loads of stations - maybe I go to the posher parts where these bikes get hired - ?
Svejk,

Info here.

254 Stolen* but recovered
27 never recovered

* in this instance, stolen probably means 'lost' in the majority of cases.

Of the 27 never recovered, some will be outside London, some at the bottom of the Thames. So there are only a handful of stolen bikes near Tower Bridge. So I am not sure why this appeal by the Police, did not also appeal for names of Asians known to use Stolen Boris bikes.
I have just watched a YouTube video of a Somali youth taking a bike into his property at night. The bikes could be the breakthough in getting these attackers, which is why the Police have highlighted their use by two of the gang.
Who would have thought a thread about Boris bikes could be so interesting.

/// Who would have thought a thread about Boris bikes could be so interesting. ///

As always sensitive thread on AB are very often sidestepped by certain ABers.
As usual, AOG asks a question, and then totally disregards the answers.

If the answers do not satisfy you AOG, perhaps you will tell us why it has taken 2 months for the Daily Mail and others to report this racist attack?

Where have I totally disregarded the answers?

But I could also accuse others including yourself, of completely disregarding my question.

/// If the answers do not satisfy you AOG, perhaps you will tell us why it has taken 2 months for the Daily Mail and others to report this racist attack? ///

Wasn't that just the question I was asking?

*** Why has it took so long to reach the majority of the national newspapers ***

Please try and keep up Gromit.
I answered your question at 12:28, and you are still asking the same question - so you have disregarded it.

I'll answer it again.

The police have been making investigations into a man assaulted for the last 2 months. They haven't got anywhere. That is not really very newsworthy, people are assaulted all the time. Yesterday, the police made an appeal for witnesses and gave additional information. It became newsworthy because it was revealed the gang was Asian and the victim was white. That fact instantly prioritises the story higher in the news agenda in papers that are anti immigration, which is why the Mail, Telegraph and Express have made a national story out of what is really a local news story.
And if a gang of whites attacked an Asian what would they do then Gromot?
It's definitely a conspiracy by the Establishment.

There literally cannot be any other explanation.
@Retrocop

(Regarding Rotherham)
//They had everything against them including a Labour controlled local council dominated by Muslims who also wanted a lid kept on it and brought pressure to bear.//

Just to prove how insular I am: I feel I have seen references to "Labour council" many times but this is the first time I have seen that second part mentioned in any TV or online debate. Thank you for making the picture that much clearer.

Merely saying "Labour council" paints a picture of conventional L vs R mudslinging, for political gain plus a generous side order of political correctness and sucking-up to minority ethnicities, again to get votes. But I was picturing white Labour councillors doing this.

Now the picture is of self-protection over embarassment about criminality being associated with a group otherwise known for being god-fearing, law-abiding, unobtrusive types.

@AOG

Which ABers are missing from this thread? I have only just spotted it myself and only because it was in 'Related threads' under something else.
The Primark snatched baby thread probably eclipsed this one and I only mention it because "(ethnicity) are bad" tales which later turn out to be false only mean that the word-of-mouth version of incidents like this one gets undermined. To the point that, if an event was real but there is no CCTV to back it up, people tend to dismiss it as yet more tar brushing.

The Guardian has either dipped on this story (journalistically embarassing) or they are consciously editing it to avoid upsetting their readership. As you do, if you know what side your bread is buttered…

Please tell me where you read that the victim was white, because I must have missed that fact?
