£6000 without it affecting your housing benefit.
State pension and DLA aren't affected by savings.
If you get State Pension Credit you can £10,000 before your housing benefit is affected

If Pension is lower than the amount the Government says you need to live on.

thanks mamy - have got the answers I truly didn't know about.
pension credit is the most underclaimed benefit with as many as 1 in 3 who are entitled to it failing to claim it. Use the pension credit claim line they are very helpful. Or just the AgeUk help line that is on the link to help you claim pension credit they are the experts and really know the system.
hc4361 is spot on, but what I don't understand is, I receive part state & pension credit, with housing benefit & council tax paid.

But in the last month, I have had to start paying some of my carers cost to the social.
you have to be assessed for a contribution if social services are paying for your care trt
Thanks bednobs,

but what's the limit you have to have in the bank, before you have to start paying towards a carer? Cant seem to find it on their site.
i think it depends on income as well as money in bank. Do you get attendance allowance?
£14, 250
Yes bednobs, I get the lower AA, £50 a week.
then you will be contributing some of that for your care i expect - that's what it's for

Thanks bednobs,
But why has it just happened, I have been getting AA since I came out of the hospital 2 years ago.
Has a new rule come in?
don't know i'm afraid - perhaps you've been under the radar, and they have just realised?
Thanks bednobs,

I was thinking of contacting social and asking for an answer.

there doesn't seem to a be a black and white area re these pensions, state, pension credit, housing benefit, what you have in the bank - etc etc. Nobody seems to know exactly what people are entitled to. That's my opinion.
