What Is The Uk Version Of The Australian 'fair Work' Law?

Apart from the minimum pay and holidays that Buenchico mentioned, I don't know of any similar law or act to the Australian one.
My son has just graduated and is looking for a job. I am astounded by how tight some companies can be regarding payment during trial periods. One mentioned 5 months of unpaid training in London. It seems it is legal to do this. Jdjack, how did your company abuse your trial shift?
