....That it takes longer to recover from a laparoscopy (for cholecystectomy) that one imagines it will? I had my op last Saturday and this morning, my OH and I took a sedate mooch around town and visited the library. By the time we got home, I was a mess-tired, achey and wimpily weepy. I feel that I should at least have regained some stamina by now or am I expecting too much of this 65 year old bod?
Any ideas will be very welcome.
Best wishes

It has been less than a week since you had surgery. Give yourself a chance. The surgery may have been keyhole but the anaesthetic can take a while to get over. Another week or two and you will feel fine, I am sure. No use comparing yourself to other people as regards recovery time as everyone is different and.....I hesitate to say this, but I have often suspected...

When you posted after your operation, you mentioned some bruising and although I didn't comment, I was .....a little concerned.

People recover at varying rates and from what I can gather from your posts it may take a week or two for you to get back to normal.
I had a laparoscopy in my 20's and it took me at least a week to feel back to normal.
No, it took me longer than I thought it would. I had to leave the house due to one of my wounds breaking open but it was hard going being out, especially as I don't drive (bumpy city buses!). I was just about back to normal when I went back to work after two weeks off. I was too optimistic with my recovery.

to recover fully for me it took me several weeks, go easy on yourself, I felt the same as you, just a bit of activity would have me feeling absolutely shattered. x

Thank you all for your replies and good advice. Sqad, re the bruises round the incisions, on the care plan I was given on discharge, it said to expect bruising and not to worry. I should think they waggle the instruments around a fair bit during the procedure so is that what could cause the bruising?
