Does anyone else agree that Aleshas rendition was quite possibly the worst take on a National anthem ever - I`d almost swera I saw Prince Michael wince. Opinions please.

He probably winced from a mouthful of strawberries that had gone off
Well....I don't watch F1, but Mrs sqad is a fan and i have just put your comment to her.

She said:

"It was appalling and it sounded as though she sang it with an American accent."
Was it as bad as some of the rendition of the american anthem ( or whatever it's called ) at their sports events ?

i`ve heard some pretty horrendous US ones to - but I think she set new depths of vocal dexterity
Our fella said she sung it like a girl of eight when she was five

They didn't sing national amthems in anything remotely resembling 'contemporary style' until relatively recently. Why they felt the need to do this, I have no idea (other than promoting sales of the singer's records) but I'll bet the Americans started it. Was it an Olympics?

At least she didn't shoehorn in 50 extra notes, per line, as is the fashion.

I may be wrong but when they play anthems at the podium, I swear the band* slips in a couple of extra notes in the closing bars which either aren't there or it's just me, thinking it sounds wrong: -

They turn "save our queen" (three notes, one per word) into "say-ay-ay-ave our queen" (six notes). Bleuurrghh.

* Of what ever country they are in. Either they are part of the entourage or it's a local band in each country but duff sheet music has been distributed to them all.

I've just read a Huffpost article, from what Retrocop's link found and am shocked to discover I cocked up the words in exactly the same way she did.

It is 'the' not 'our', in the closing line.

Can anyone tell me when her new single is out?
''Gaaaahd save our gracious Queen......' Awful, why don't these big events just play a recording of National Anthems?
