Either the Met are getting soft or they are too politically constrained nowadays.
In light of recent events in Tunisia and the 7/7 bombings I would of thought at least the old common law standby "Behaviour likely to cause a breach of the peace" would of sufficed.
This lack of action IMO is giving tacit approval and legitimacy to this IS rag.

As dear departed Mel Smith would have said on this matter; "Cut off his goolies!"

Do try and keep up.

"Behaviour 'LIKELY' to cause a breach of the peace"

Is it a little hollow in AB today, or is there a bout of indigestion going around?
I have kept up pretty well, thank you, aog. I thought the behaviour was unlikely to cause a breach of the peace. The police thought the behaviour was unlikely to cause a breach of the peace.

We were both correct.
I notice the user jenniesmith is now suspended.
From my answer yesterday:

I don't think it's an ISIS flag, more like a design from the London School of Art.

I was right all along. This has now been confirmed by the school.

Thank you for your very polite response, but I have still to query this:

/// I thought the behaviour was unlikely to cause a breach of the peace. The police thought the behaviour was unlikely to cause a breach of the peace. ///

Just because you thought it unlikely and the police also thought the same, I feel sure both of you do not look into crystal balls, so who knows what might have kicked off later on?
I'm not entirely sure you can arrest people on a "might" basis can you?
Just Jude

Wasn't that the flag mistaken by CNN at the Pride Festival?

It's called likely.

That is why I suggested the Met has been politically neutered. That antagonist's feet would of been straight in Canon Row Police Station especially as it was done outside Parliament. The hierachy appear as cowardly as this ......

Crickey and after such a short membership, but looking back on her past record, I wonder why she had to repeat everything, and is this why she was suspended?

Under certain circumstances and offences an arrest can be made if there is a suspicion or the likelihood of an offence will be committed.
I am about to repeat myself (seems to be a trend today) because I cannot recall which thread I originally posted this reply on.

This man has got what he wanted - the press/media and yes us (me included) have given him the publicity and airtime he wanted.

To have ignored would have been the better course of action ,unless it had escalated into an offence that required intervention.
As i said in a similar thread yesterday, this individual would have been quickly whisked off the streets by our cops and taken away for an "interview". I've seen guys taken away for a chat for waltzing around town wearing Satan's Choice or Hell's Angels colours.

Just Jude 1545,
your London School of Art comment is on 2nd page here

and has nothing to do with the flag referred to on this thread
I agree that if it were asked prior to its happening, it would likely breach the peace. However the fact that nothing happened, contradicts that.
I reckon something would have happened if the coward hadn't used his daughter as a human shield. He would definitely have been horizontal within 1 minute around these parts. But then we're not very PC or 'enlightened'.
It's not clear whether he put the flag away after being spoken to, thereby avoiding a breach of the peace.

Displaying that flag in the UK should certainly not be tolerated.
Question Author
If an innocent tourist was taking photos of Big Ben the police would have come no where near them. The fact that the police officers stopped and spoke to this person and then consulted with others as to what action to take must indicate that they were not happy with this mans actions and probably told him to depart the scene rather than arrest him.I would suggest that the likelihood of a breach had crossed their minds but where told to back off due to political expediency which I believe is the incorrect action to take.We are showing that IS supporters can brazenly advertise their allegiance to this filthy murderous cult.
