It is a grey area.

I have not had a tv license for 2 years.

My set-up is an AppleTV with an iPhone. There are cheaper options. I use the

http://tvcatchup.com app.

Airplay to the TV.

Thanks Gromit I'll look into that as we both. Use iphones
If you have an iPhone you can download the app here to try it out.

The AppleTV plugs into an HDMI slot in your tv. Whatever you play on TVCatchup plays via wifi on the AppleTV via AirPlay.
If you have the catch up apps on your phone, BBC iPlayer, ITV player etc, they are project onto your tv with airplay.
I feel like an Apple Salesman here.

NowTV and Netflix both have dedicated apps on the box. NowTV on the AppleTV is much better than the Nowtv box.
Paul...are you sure that you don't need a TV licence to view on Catch-up TV?

I used Catch-up occasionally, on my Samsung 7 inch Tablet, when I can't sleep at night. The name Catch-up is somewhat of a misnomer, as it appears to broadcast live TV, and I thought you needed a licence for that ?

Catch up Television is the collective name for on demand services like BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, All4 and Demand 5. You do not need a license for these services (at the moment).

TVCatchup is an app that re-streams live TV. You do need a license to watch this, though it falls out of the definition of a live trasmission watched through a recie.ver
