Fair? What is fair? People fraud much more without ever paying a penny in.

And, no, I don't condone it...yada yada.
If the courts were more consistent they would at least appear to be fair.
Well it's splashed all over the news and she's paying it back - I don't condone it either but would it really be better if she was jailed or something?
I do agree with that point - the courts are indeed inconsistent.
They can't be consistent as everyone's circumstances are different.
Something similar happened to a friend of mine who, when caught, held his hands up and pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity. He also paid the full amount back before the case went to court. He was fined a couple of hundred pounds and was given community service. But he's just an ordinary Joe, not a faded pop star from a famous family:-(
Watched her on Big Brother, horrible, horrible woman. Washed up celebrity, enough said!!
Agree with Stpeter. What a dreadful person, and by her own account her husband was no better. Met some of the Nolans in early 80's in Ibiza, pretty rough!
I don't think it is different to the huge majority of cases that are not made public. She had mental problems, pleaded guilty by accepting a caution and is repaying it.The amount was relatively low at £6000, that was never going to be more than a caution or conditional discharge. You can't have different rules for well known people. In fact most cases for that sort of amount and situation are even prosecuted, so in that way she has been more severely treated than an unknown person, she now has a criminal record that most people in a similar situation would not have.
EDDIE51; The original sum was £12,000 (there were a couple of charges) and the DWP dropped the case for £8,000 of that in May. Blackpool council were going to go ahead with the case for £4,000 - which she is already paying off - but changed their minds at the eleventh hour.
My friend owed much less than that amount but, besides not being famous, he also forgot to pretend he had contemplated suicide over it. Cynical? You bet i am.
Another Nolan?

Who's t'other?
@Boo....you took the words right out of my mouth...;)
You're thinking of Meatloaf, Bathy....he's a bad un.
Oh yeah, that's right Talbot....thanks :p x x
^^^

Thought he was just a hairy biker. Don't they present a cookery prog' or something?
Yes Ken, but unfortunately one of the duo- Clarissa Dickson Wright- sadly died last year ;-)

Ok, sorry, I'll behave now.
No Ken...you're thinking of Gordon Ramsey......;)
Type Your Answer Here...This has nothing to do with the courts.

The decision to issue a caution is taken by the police in conjunction with the CPS. The idea of cautions was to give first time offenders committing trivial offences the chance to avoid a conviction by accepting their guilt. It is a grossly abused facility and now multiple offenders committing serious offences are afforded the privilege. Defrauding the taxpayer of £6k does not fall into the “trivial” category in my book.
Her husband was a thief too !
