Because we have no mobile reception I have discovered that our BT cordless phones appear to have the facility to text messages. I have recently tried this & it seems to work, however I have no way of knowing if the text message actually went & whether the recipient received it. Is there a way that I can check this ?

Have sent one to daughter in Manchester but no reply, hence my query.
If your phone can send texts then it can presumably receive them too.

Text the name of any railway station (such as 'Cambridge') or just it's 3-letter code, if you know it, (such as 'CBG') to 84950. A few seconds afterwards you should get a text back, listing the next train departures from that station.
Question Author
did that Chris, result = sending text then aborted.
Hmmm. I'm wondering whether that's because the text that's sent back is charged to your phone account. (It's only a few pence). Perhaps there's no mechanism for charging a landline account, so 84950 is a 'banned number' from your phone? (That train-checking service is definitely working; I've just tried it).
Question Author
Thanks for trying Chris, it seems that experiment failed.

I am amazed there are still parts of this country that can't get a mobile signal. To confirm yes the 85 series of BT phones can send texts I did it when I was first setting it up.
