Thinking of trying a cruise for the first time. The fiords seem appealing. Can anyone recommend a ship that is very informal and not huge e.g. max 1000 passengers. Have no intention of wearing a cocktail dress and my partner is no way taking a suit on a holiday!!Help please

Have a look at Norwegian Cruise Line. No cocktail dresses required.
Try Hurtigruten. Very informal, not like a normal cruise at all, but still very comfortable. Great views of the fjords.
yes, Hurtigruten are working vessels, not cruise liners. Haven't been on one but I'm told they can get quite busy with commuters getting from one fjord to the next.
Azamara club cruises are the best.
No formal nights, most drink included.

Then why go on a cruise?
Why not?
Cruise= relax

Getting dressed up in pretentious garb does not equate to relaxation in my book.
talbot....we clearly read different books.

A cruise is more than a relaxation, it is an experience.
And some experiences are worse than others.

This cruise company cater for trips to the Fjords and you can wear what you want. Formal dining is optional only if you want to take part, if not choose to dine in the other areas of the ship. T-shirts, shorts and tracksuits are not allowed in the restaurants for evening dining.

If you have never been on a cruise then why do you not want one of the larger ships?? The new ships have a far better guest/space ratio than an old tub like Fred Olsen (3* at best). There are numerous restaurants, bars and the entertainment is excellent. Again you do not "have " to dress up but at least you have a good choice of alternative restaurants to go to those evenings rather than just the buffet. Look at RCI. You may be pleasantly surprised at some of their great deals this summer.
Bizarre 'best answer' of the week.
