Classical Music Recommendations

I want to download some classical music but I'm new to it! Can anyone give me some recommendations, preferably stuff I'll recognise e.g. from films, adverts, etc... or just anything good!

Yep, concur - good thread iamcarley (and good name too, my sister is called Carly) hope you liked everyone's suggestions - do you have a favourite one so far?
Lina, always better to have music on the go, makes time fly doesn't it?
Here's a different type, from 'Empire of the Sun' film score (don't know why it came to mind, I was thinking of putting the Braveheart soundtrack on, but that's a bit harsh in places):

Regards the fabulous film scores, I truly think you have to watch the film to fully appreciate the score emotionally.

Hmm.. actually, scratch that, the empire of the sun film score is a bit too 'singing' orientated rather than classical, hmm ignore that one :-)

My favourites were Johann Pachelbel, Ludovico Einaudi, The Cinematic Orchestra. I've downloaded them, thanks again everyone!
