I am considering a dual boot system on my laptop. I currently run Windows 7 (Home Premium) and would like to install a virtual operating system in windows XP mode. Please could anyone advise if this is possible with my current operating system and also what if any, pitfalls I might encounter along the way especially if my BIOS settings have to be changed.

I sort of agree with @TheChair's general advice but Windows XP mode is not available with Windows 7 Home Premium. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7_editions#Comparison_chart Be aware that there has been a high level of reports of dual-boot Windows 7 systems failing during Microsoft Windows Updates. Please post a description of your problem...

Why not just run Virtual XP in Windows 7?
It's free from MS.

Thank for all your replies and advice. As Methyl has pointed out, it is not possible to run a virtual PC with XP mode with W7 home premium, so without updating to professional it would seem that my idea is a non-starter.
Thank you Methyl for your invaluable help!
