I believe this site could improve itself by allowing its patrons to give answers a thumbs up or a thumbs down

1) What do you think?

2) Will they do it?

@Rtaxron.....I am unable to comprehend your posting. You appear to be giving a 'thumbs down' to Prudie and are doing so with a big smile.

I am certainly Not amused by you comment.

Hans.

I'm up for it. I get thousands of green arrows in the Daily Mail.

Now why doesn't that surprise me ;-))
Maybe you could, as a group, create more signs than thumbs up or down. We need some sort of smillie that covers 'sarcastic answer'. Sarcasm doesn't translate well in writing. (Has smilie got one or two 'l's?

Lynn - your idea is good. I have often felt the need to reassure a poster but can't think of anything to say. A nice little wave in their direction saying 'I'm here' would be nice.

I recall about 5 years ago there was a star system.
Answers were given between 1 & 3 stars and it caused all sorts
of bickering.
I don't think it's a good idea. It would be quite upsetting to get a lot of red arrows, and also it can be quite cliquey here sometimes. Newcomers are sometimes quite ignored.

Thumbs Down Hans, :-(
This is a discussion forum, so thumbs up or down is not needed - we don't need to be like Facebook.
Thumbs up or down not a good idea at all, would cause lots of problems.
I think emoticons would be good. Save a lot of misunderstandings.
No thumbs up or down. R&S and News would be awash with them. The system is Ok as it is, when anyone wants to show their displeasure/pleasure at a post they usually say so.
cliquebait
What's wrong with a bit of sarcastic vitriol to express displeasure?

Not a lot except there are those who can dish it out and take it back on the chin and then there are those who can only dish it out. :-(
Possibly a LIKE button or thumbs up.
Scrap the thumbs down, if you don't agree or like something, just move on.
Some would get a bit sensitive I feel.
I have changed my password for Answer Bank but it is still not being used .
Any help please.
