I need some help with my relationship with my mom. I've noticed that she and my sister talk about my sister's boy troubles, school troubles. normal stuff that mothers and daughters talk about, but when it comes to me, any time i try to talk to her about any of my problems she just blurts out a solution of some sort and it's over. No talking it out, no seeing how i feel, just a short, ill-tempered answer. Also any time i try to talk to her about these things she normally gets angry and turns it around somehow and we begin to argue. It's only getting worse. I really want to be able to talk to my mother but i don't know why she doesn't want to talk to me the way she will to my sister. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Ask your sister if she can shed any light on the problem.
Ask your mum ... if you find it hard show her this post of yours. She will probably be shocked about how you feel.
Not an ideal response from your mother but I wonder if your sister is an older sister, who has relationship questions that do need deeper investigation, whilst your questions are of a sort where your mother already knows the best answer without needing to investigate details, and feels that after giving advice she wants to get on ?

But whatever the cause, pick a good time when your mother isn't concentrating on something important to her, and calmly, politely ask why she doesn't give as much attention to your concerns as she does to your sister; as it makes you feel less valued. Do not allow unchecked emotion to turn a talk into an argument. It helps no one when two parties feel they are being attacked and need to defend theirselves.
