have fostered a romainian dog, had her 5 weeks now, she is terrified of humans but loves other dogs, she has got a skin condition which the rescue says is caused by stress, we bath her in special shampoo with a delousing agent and spray on Petrelief which the rescue gave us, but she's getting worse, where she nibbles and scratches shes got bald patches which are dry and she smells , not of doggy just a horrible smell which i think is the skin condition, have got another dog had her 6 years, she's ok so the skin condition cant be catching,

What has your vet advised?
How is she with you? Is there any chance that all the constant bathing is making her more stressed, or drying her skin out? Add some vegetable or coconut oil to her food to improve her skin condition, or a conditioning tablet, maybe. Or, speak to the rescue that brought her over and see if they have any suggestions. Well done for taking a dog out of danger and what was probably a very difficult situation for her. Perhaps ask a vet about her food, in case she's allergic to anything you're feeding her. I imagine her diet here is a lot better than she was getting in Romania and it might be a bit much for her body to deal with.
Have you got rid of the fleas you had for months that affected your other dog?

Definitely ask a vet, it could be mange, ringworm, anything - needs to be tested

I WAS GOING TO SEE THE VET AT THE RESCUE ON FRIDAY.THEY TOLD ME THE VET HAD A COUPLE OF OPERATIONS TO DO AND WOULD PHONE ME WHEN HE WAS READY TO SEE MY DOG, HE NEVER PHONED, I EMAILED THEM AND SAID I WAS UNHAPPAY THEY DID'NT PHONE ME, THEY SAID THAT THEY DID, I WAS IN ALL DAY WAITING FOR THAT CALL, THEY HAVE GIVEN ME SPECIAL FOOD FOR HER, A LIGHT AND SENSITIVE CHICKEN AND A HERB SUPPLEMENT, THEY ARE SENDING ME SOME PANAMEC TO GIVE HER, SHE IS STILL SCARED OF US, WONT LET US STROKE HER OR GET TOO NEAR, NEITHER DOG HAS FLEAS, I TOLD THE RECUE THAT I THINK SHE NEEDS A SKIN SCRAPE BUT THEY INSIST ITS STRESS, THE LAST PEOPLE WHO FOSTERED HER BEAT HER
can you only see the vet at the rescue? Have you not got a vet of your own so to speak?
Question Author
BECAUSE I HAVE FOSTERED THE DOG IT'S FREE TO SEE THE RESCUE VET, I HAVE GOT A VET THAT I USE, BUT I WAS HOPING TO GET HER TREATED FOR FREE, BIT AS THEY DON'T THINK A SKIN SCRAPPING IS NECESSARY, I MIGHT HAVE TO TAKE HER TO MY VET AND PAY
Gosh this gets worse. Mbutty, I am horrified when you say the last people to foster her beat her!! Was it the same rescue you got her from that fostered her out on that occasion? Poor poor dog.
I can understand why you are seeing the rescue vet if it is free but I'm wondering if they take the cheapest option when treating her as I expect money is tight as it is with nearly all rescues. Did she have this condition when she came to you or has it developed since? If it was me, I would get the rescue vet to take another look at her and then if there is no improvement I would take her elsewhere for a second opinion. If the new vet treats her successfully you could always go back to the free rescue vet and get them to provide you with the successful treatment rather than keep paying the other vet. Hope that makes sense.
As regards her being frightened, love will conquer in the end but will take a while.

At the risk of upsetting a few folks, Why, Why, Why IMPORT Dogs to put into Rescue Homes.
Are there not more than enough good Dogs already waiting to be rescued that are home grown.
I really can see no reason for doing this other than a Halo Polishing exercise on the part of the rescuer/importer, given the number of rescue dogs we have already, it's madness!
We have a Rescue, a Dobie *** (female dog, that filter's mad) had her about 7 years now, and will always look at rescue first if we want a Dog, but importing them, no way!

YES SHE HAD THE SKIN CONDITION WHEN WE GOT HER BUT IT IS GETTING WORSE, WE HAVE ALWAYS HAD RESCUE DOGS BUT NEVER FROM ABROAD BEFORE, WE FELL FOR HER WHEN SHE WAS ADVERTISED IN OUR LOCAL PAPER, WE WENT TO SEE HER SHE WAS IN A CAGE BY HERSELF IN A CORNER PETRIFIED, THE LADY HAD TO DRAG HER OUT AND WE WALKED WITH HER WHILE SHE WALKED THE DOG, SHE WAS SO SCARED AND WE JUST COULD'NT LEAVE HER THERE, WE SAID WE WOULD FOSTER HER AND THEY BOUGHT HER TO OUR HOUSE A FEW DAYS LATER, SHE WANTS TO JOIN IN WHEN I STROKE AND PLAY WITH OUR OTHER DOG BUT SHE'S JUST TOO SCARED
Well if she came to you with it and has got worse and all of this under the same vet then I don't really think you have any other option than to take her to another vet for a second opinion.
Regarding her being so frightened, I guess you just have to be patient and let her come to you when she's ready as I'm sure she will eventually. She must be feeling very wretched at the moment though with that awful skin condition. Is she interacting with your other dog? Does your other dog like her?

Baldric I feel the same as you when I look at the issue with my practical head on. We don't have enough rescue places for our home grown dogs and thousands get put to sleep by local authorities who find all the rescues in their area full to the brim. And still people breed more.
BUT when I read and see some of the terrible terrible lives these poor dogs have in their own countries where kindness to animals seems to be an alien concept, I wobble. They are even kicked and stoned and shot at while lying exhausted and starving in the gutter and then I want to get in my car and go and fetch as many as I can back here.

But I agree, common sense must prevail. They (the importers) should do what they can for the dogs in their own country and try to educate potential owners on how to be responsible dog owner in my opinion.

All my dogs throughout my life have been rescues. And each a little gem (present one pushing it a bit though).
Whatever our opinions about importing rescue dogs, the fact is that here and now the dog is here and the OP needs our help. If it was me I would be going to my own vet ASAP and paying for the treatment needed. I'm not sure but a "skin condition caused by stress" for which you need a delousing agent sounds like it it night be mange which need sorting asap.
I agree, I think it may be mange. I also hope those foster people who beat her are now no longer able to foster, as if the poor little thing hadn't gone through enough ! Hope you can sort it mybutty.
