I am going to stay at a friends house for a week but she has no wifi, the thought of being without my ( right arm!!!!) is not a happy thought. Is there anything I can buy that would enable me to pick up wifi or is that a very naive question, you can tell I am not technology minded! I do have the BT app that will pick up hotspots in certain places but as I am disabled so it not always easy to get to them.

If you have an iPhone then you can use its data connection with an iPad.

Failing that you might want to rent one of these:

Or if you have any smart phone with the hotspot facility you can use that. I use my Blackberry to connect my devices when away from home.
I bought a Mi FI from Argos last week - £19.99 complete with 2 gb which lasts for one month. It works on a sim card. You don't even plug it in to your device, just charge it up and switch it on and it picks up a signal. Works with up to five devices and I use mine with a tablet at work where we have no wifi. Brilliant.
You can top up in increments of for £5 for 250. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1168044.htm
Can you put a sim card in your iPad?
