Is it because classical performers are becoming better known?

Or is the classical market simply relying on the "boy band factor"* ... that you are more likely to buy a CD if it has someone sexy on the cover?

( *also known as the Katherine Jenkins factor)

My recent purchases (not because of the covers, I should add) include ...

Jonas Kaufmann ...

(one feels that one would, wouldn't one)

And Hélène Grimaud ...

I'm sure classical CD's used to have pictures of crappy old paintings, or rustic scenes with fields and rivers (sorry, you probably know what rustic involves). I'll be describing "mountainous" next.

Thanks for BA jj, Louis Armstrong wasn't far behind her, out of the eight records four were his own recordings and the book he chose was his autobiography.

Raising one's own autobiography would REALLY keep you enthralled on a desert island!

Perhaps he thought that, if he ever met a band of natives, he could give it to them as a gift.

"Reading" ... not "Raising"

I was going to ask if Ketherine Jenkins is expecting because, at the Royal Albert Hall a couple of weeks ago, her boobs were absolutely enormous.

But I've just Googled it, and apparently she is.

You could feel the whole audience thinking "Whooah, crikey!"

Yep, not a classical artist, but good old Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music......but do you think I bought the LP in my yoof, for the cover, or the music within?
