Microwaveable Popcorn

I've tried doing this many different ways but I always seem to burn some. I have a 800w microwave and the first time when I did it according to the instructions I nearly burnt the house down!!

I've tried doing it on a slightly lower setting for 2 minutes then in 2 spurts of 30 secs on the lower setting after but I still manage to burn some. Also tried 1.30 mins on full setting but the bag doesn't inflate to its full size and leaves loads of un-popped kernals. A few spurts of 30secs later and more burnt popcorn!

Any suggestions? Or should I stick to Tyrrells/Metcalfs etc. :/

i empty mine in to a large glass dish with a plate on top and just watch it till i see most of them have "popped" (not all of them will) maybe it is your particular make of corn

It is Butterkist salted caramel. I will try the glass dish method. At least I'll be able to see what's going on. Thanks Ivor.
I've done it in a similar way to ivor, then I take out any unpopped corn and put them back for a few seconds longer.
I've had similar trouble with the microwave varieties, so I stick with the "ready cooked" offerings available of which there is a fair selection.

Brilliant Boxy, thanks. Will try both methods.

Hopefully now my house won't smell of burning every time I try to make popcorn, which I've recently become addicted too!!

I fancy popcorn now.
Have to admit we do the microwave in the bag stuff and never have a problem. I wonder if there's something up with your microwave?

Actually, I tell a lie - its sweet & salted, not caramel. Don't think they do a microwaveable salted caramel.

I buy bags of the stuff Whurly, but thought I'd try the microwave variety.

I've had a look at my microwave and there is a POPCORN SETTING on it!! Can't believe I've never noticed this before. I feel stupid now :(
I adore microwave popcorn- gotta be salty though.

I love all flavours of popcorn. Tyrrells do lemon cupcake which I quite like. I can get through a whole giant tub at the cinema all by myself!

i follow the instructions and don't have a problem. I don't use the microwave or anything else, apart from the occasional defrosting a chicken beast or two.
