I have been on windows 7 for years and can alter anything - but have just bought a new Windows 8 laptop yesterday. Have spent 5 hours setting it up from scratch and it works fine. Have set up the desktop so it looks like my old windows7 with all the icons on the desktop - just need some help as I can't find where to change things! There is no bar at the top with all the icons for print etc. These are my initial problems:

1. I have been told before h to resize web pages on Windows 7. I have not just clicked the square to enlarge then but dragged them each side and top/bottom to fill screen - but in some cases when I go into them again (even after switching of the laptop)y are still the same! Am I missing something?

2. Can't find how to locate my programs - on Win7 I clicked bottom left of screen and it shoed programs and option of locating prog/files. where is it now?

3.I used to be able to locate a page showing 'computer' with details of this and any printers and plug ins like a memory stick - where is that?

4. This is important. When I set up the laptop initially yesterday it kept asking me if I had a MS account. I had only because I have a 'never used' Hotmail acct and I signed in to this and now it shows this Hotmail acct when I first switch on the laptop and I have to put a password which is the old Hotmail password!!
Firstly I not want these MS Hotmail details to show and I don't want to have a password anyway to log in.
I have my usual gmail address which I have set up with my gmail/thunderbird and all these came on automatically - so how do I get rid of these Hotmail sign ons and will it affect my new laptop if I just remove them - I am unsure of myself here.

I am sure I will find some more probs - so can all you Win8 experts please help me?

Thanks a lot

if you need to print a page touch on the wee horizontal bars on top right of screen to find drop down menu including print
2 programs will show on win8.1 start up in tile form if you have pinned them to desktop page they will be there at the bottom
computer is also on a tile in start up page...
if you want to pin anything to desktop start up just hold down tile until it presents the option...pin ups appear in a string at bottom of desktop page
if you go into control panel vis computer you can change user accounts..ie passwords etc
via ^^
if you touch on the aforesaid three horizontal bars on topright it offers zoom ..you use this to size page 100% being full screen
Those bars are nothing to do with Windows, they are a Google Chrome browser feature.
daffy That is what I am using ..assumed op would be too !
using IE it is the wee cog at the top right rather than the bars on Chrome

Thanks for quick reply Murraymints - I was struggling with Win8.!

Have gone thru your points. Firstly I had it set at 125% and when I reset it to 100% - problem solved!

Re. the 2 progs you mention on start up tiles. Could not find them but in pulldown list there was one called This PC with little icon and I pinned this to desktop and that showed what I wanted.

Re.the passwords. The only option I can see is to ADD further one as there is currently my HMail as I said and Guest. I can add my GMail acct for sure but will I be able to remove the other? I used to go straight in without this page on Win7 without password!

Thanks so much
yes..you can remove accounts as well as add
This tells you how to bypass the log in screen.
