My wife bought a 2nd hand ipad2. The seller had wiped it clean, so as we could start afresh. The seller said the best way to go forward was to get on to iTunes.
Eventually we realised it had to be downloaded onto our computer, which we did. We've got as far as successfully updating the ipad. Next we are prompted to choose a Wi-Fi network. The one highlighted is our modem, DSL-2640R.
When we click on this, up comes " Enter Password". This is where the problem is, i.e., what password ? There is no " Forget password "option, so we are at a dead end. Please help !

OK, so I've done as tuvok suggested, and clicked on the link provided. The ipad rejects the password. Could it be that the ipad is still programmed to the password set by the previous owner /
Question Author
Yes I'm getting mixed up. It's the ipad that " not charging "
Does the ipad show your own wifi name? If so, it's not getting you mixed up with the old owner.

It shows my modem, which is a d-link.
Would you just check your modem again. Look on the side of it and on the base and all around it for a password.

In the meantime plug your ipad into the mains, it needs charging by the sounds of it.
Is your computer wireless. or wired to your modem/router? (router from now on)

If its wireless you will have entered the wireless password when you setup the computer.

Also check what your router is set as for its wireless security - it will be wep or wpa etc.
You may want to create your own password - but first I would connect the computer to the router by cable so that you still have access - as you will need to enter the new password to work wirelessly with the computer!

I've done as . I cannot see any other passwords except the 5 character one.
And yes, the ipad is running down, but it didn't come with a mains charger, and it doesn't seen as if the computer has enough oomph to do it.
Your cable that you connect the ipad to the computer is also your mains cable. You should also have a plug with a usb socket in it - thats the charger.

Try my suggestion of creating a wireless password - remember to connect the computer to the router by cable first!

Passwords are case sensitive.

You may also have a button to push on the router that has to be pushed just before you enter the password on the iPad

You could also turn off the wireless security temporarily and get the ipad to connect to ensure that your router and the ipad actually agree!. Then turn it back on and setup the wireless password
You need to open your router admin page by typing this is the address bar (not the search box)

192.168.0.1

From there you will be able to change the password to an 8 character one
