i don't think you can just cancel a credit agreement nearly half way through it. Why doesn't he sell it, and use money to pay off some of the debt. Or at 86 needing 24 hr nursing care, don't worry about it and just stop paying
If it's on credit he shouldn't sell it, as it doesn't belong to him. You could try coming to some arrangement with the place he bought it from or, as a last resort, just stop paying. The credit company will repossess it and give him a black mark on his credit rating - in his condition that's not going to worry him.
I would agree with the above when they say stop paying. Let them repossess it.

Between the payments he's made and what they can sell it for they probably won't make a loss.

Thank you all for your help as you suggest stop paying and let them reposses seems like the best and cheapest option as his pension money will have to go toward his care home expenses. He can't sell it as it does not belong to him as you rightly pointed out.mobility shop which sold him the scooter did not want to help when I asked for options to sort this out.they said they have never dealt with anyone who tried to cancel an agreement.so much for customer care for the elderly. They were quick to sell him the scooter but not to helpfull to resolve his problem.
Hi bluetoon.. Might be worth contacting Age UK, they should be able to advise you. Good luck with it x
