This is a serious question.

Could any of the religious AB members please explain in words that I can understand or without pasting lengthy gibberish tomes, why their Almighty has seen fit to kill over 2000 people in Nepal?

Yes, I was taught you have to believe the mantra It's God's Will. But as you say Wildwood, the horrid, evil happenings in this world, leave many folk myself included pondering God ?? is this all brainwashing.
The obvious answer is that the Almighty has not done anything of the sort. The universe is a dangerous place, it is possible it has to be if it is going to self regulate without continual adjustment from the Almighty; so at any time one might find they are on their way back to their maker. It's all part of the deal of having life.
^^ Ah yes, but it is easier to blame a God that you don't think exists.
Instead of trying to apportion blame...what are you doing as a human being to help?
It's all straightforward wildwood - if something good happens it's God's doing, if something evil happens it's either Man or Satan.
Look to geology, not theology for the answer to your 'serious question'.

So god created Men on a planet with all it's geological activity that already existed?
wildwood; Your OP question is a non sequitur; "their Almighty" didn't kill 2000 people, and earthquake did that.
Also, the religion of Nepal is Buddhism, a religion in which God doesn't figure.
What is God. To Christ, mohamed & most beliefs its a thought in voice frame. To mortals tis same or conscience.
Canary, you might like this alternative to ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’:

All things dull and ugly
All creatures short and squat
All things rude and nasty
The Lord God made the lot

Each little snake that poisons
Each little wasp that stings
He made their brutish venom
He made their horrid wings

All things sick and cancerous
All evil great and small
All things foul and dangerous
The Lord God made them all

Each nasty little hornet
Each beastly little squid
Who made the spiky urchin?
Who made the sharks? He did

All things scabbed and ulcerous
All pox both great and small
Putrid, foul and gangrenous
The Lord God made them all.
I am an atheist Wildwood, so I can only give you a rational and logical answer !

There is no "Almighty" so he or she can't be responsible for this earthquake.

Its just the earth cooling down...simple as that. Nepal is right on the edge of a tectonic plate and this will happen many more times, over the next few million years or so, and there isn't a damn think anybody can do about it.

Wait for the Big One in California !
David Small....."I am not religious. Though I believe there is a supreme power over all creation"

You have contradicted yourself, in the first two sentences !

Make you mind up !
I suspect it is to do with being spiritual and not religious, as the latter implies rituals, common beliefs with a larger group, etc.
OG...if someone says " I believe that there is a supreme power over all creation" then how on earth can it be described as anything other than religion ? The B word is there for all to see !
It happened, whether you blame it on God or not.
"So god created Men on a planet with all it's geological activity that already existed?"

No, wildwood, humans evolved from other animals over time. Gods were created by humans to try to make sense of the scarythings happening in the world around them.
Then along came modern science.
Douglas, don't forget the many gods created to make us toe the line.....☻
Wildwood....all religions are invented and are the irrational belief in illogical circumstances. The fact that there are so many religions, all saying different and contradictory things speaks volumes !
mikey; There is no contradiction in someone saying they believe in a higher power, but do not subscribe to any particular religious organization.
In fact I think you will find it is an attitude held by many millions of people around the world today.
Khandro...I am not so content as you are, to separate the words "spiritual" and "religious" They both relate to a irrational belief in mumbo-jumbo, and is the prime reason that I am an atheist.

Perhaps I shouldn't have joined in this discussion, as wildwood specifically asked for comments from religious AB members.

But there appears to be a lack of religious people on here today, telling us how their particular religion can explain these entirely natural and explainable disasters. It would be interesting to see how they could apportion blame though, and I would be interested in a debate with them on the subject.
