I took a photo of a painting I like very much. It looks 3-D to me. It has a rocking chair and butter churn on a braided rug, A bowl of yarn on the floor beside chair, dish cabinet in the background, also a shelf/table mounted on the wall with what looks like a 'sign-in' book and feather pen in ink vase. Furniture, floor and window frame are a light black color and there are shiny gold accents on everything that I think may be for reflecting light. Visible wood beams on ceiling.
I did not see any sign of a signature on front and was unable to look at back. It was given to my mother and I think purchased at thrift store. would love to get any information available. thanks

Presume that there is no signature..... is it an American painting? Try taking painting to art gallery or auction house.... we took two portraits to sothebys and got an age for them... getting an age from the paint/ varnish etc will help you to move on with finding out more information ... and you will find out if it is valuable and if it has been painted in the style of a particular artist.
Maybe a Google image search would help itf you have the photo in a form you can upload.
Just re read this and realise that you don't have the painting just a photo of it..... that makes my post a bit daft .... but in the circs Old Geezer probably has the best idea... silly me...!

I tried to post picture a few times and it didn't work but will keep trying. To MallyJ, I don't have the painting, my Mother does so I'm definitely not giving up. Thanks to each one of you, it's more than I had. :)
If your mum has the picture borrow it or take a large photo of it to aforementioned places as they will be able to give an informed opinion on the photo .... or post it on the internet ..... you could do worse than upload an image to this site you know!
