Appealing To A Gender Vs It Is For A Gender!

What I'm confused about, is that everyone say that "Music is for Everyone!" Meaning, music is not for a specific gender/sex, but some genres appeals to a specific gender. Meaning, it's okay for a girl to like Metallica even though it appeals to guys and a boy to like JB even though it appeals to girls.
My question here is: What's the difference with a product appealing to females & saying it is for female? If more females like the product, couldn't you just say it is for girls?

That's like saying Barbie dolls/Disney Princess movies is for everyone but it just appeals more to girls, while Superhero action figures/G.I Joe Movies is for everyone but it just appeals more to boys. Meaning it's OK for guys to play/watch Barbies & Disney princess movies, and it is OK for girls to play/watch Superheroes & G.I Joe movies. But really, everyone will say Barbies & Disney princesses are for girls while Superhereo action figures & G.I Joe movies is for boys, and boys/girls having book bags or posters of the other's targeted products is considered wrong.

So with music genres, what is the difference between the two?

marketing intent. Nothing to do with what people like, its about the intent of the marketer.
You are too influenced by peer pressure.

Music is merely sounds you find pleasant. Gender doesn't come into it. Culture may encourage different genders to be more likely appreciate a particular music type but labelling it for one gender or another merely reinforces the stereotype and makes folk more likely to get into that music type. I'm unsure how useful that is.

As for differences; you tell us. What do you think appeals more to each ? (Aside for youth being sexually attracted to the artiste I mean.)
We have tried to reassure you on several threads that you should accept you like the music you like and not worry about whether it's viewed as being music aimed mainly at girls or at boys. However many ways you ask the same question we will try to help but you will continue to get the same answers on here. If you are concerned about it maybe it's worth speaking to your doctor who may refer you to someone who can help such as a psychologist- at least that way you will get specialist advice rather than just more of the same from here.
Good luck

@Old_Geezer Here is what people will tell you what music appeals to each gender.

Males = Rap & Metal (Eminem, J.Cole, Metallica, Jay Z, Iron Maiden, etc.)
Females = Pop & Punk Rock (JB, JT, Fall Out Boy, boy bands, and almost every female artists)
Which people tell you that? I can't imagine, for example, that punk rock is solely aimed at a female audience.
Question Author
@scorpiojo I actually meant Pop Punk, unless there is no difference. Anyway, Look at 5 Seconds of Summer! Their fan base is just like any fan base you will see as any other boy bands, and they are not even a boy band. (They write their music, they play instruments, and they are not even a dance group)

They got interviewed about that, and said how the pop punk genre has shifted towards the female demographic since the days of Green Day & Blink 182! Heck, if that's not enough, try looking at the fan base of Fall Out Boy & One Ok Rock, they have at least 70% female fans.
I am mystified why this bothers you so much.

Management companies and record labels will aim an act at whomever they think will by their product, be they boys, girls, both, martians ...... it really doesn't matter.

You should simply get on with liking the music you like, and ignore any perceived marketing guidelines for whom it is aimed at.

There are two kinds of music, the kind you like, and the kind you don't - and to enjoy music, they are the only criteria you need.
which people? Which everyone? Anyone whose opinion you value?

@woofgang What are you trying to ask?

@andy-hughes So your saying even that if I like music that is marketed/aim to female (like Justin Bieber), that there is nothing wrong with me?

Of course that is what I am saying!

Why would anything be 'wrong with you' for liking any style of music at all, made by anyone?

Music is to be enjoyed - it seems you are spending far too much time analysing whom you think specific music is aimed at - I have no idea why that matters - and not enough time simply listening to the music you like.
Question Author
@andy-hughes Because of how rare it is for a specific male to like certain music. The fact that JB has like 10% male fans (mostly gay ones), you might as well say his music is for girls. Otherwise, what's the difference?
you said "But really, everyone will say Barbies & Disney princesses are for girls while Superhereo action figures & G.I Joe movies is for boys, and boys/girls having book bags or posters of the other's targeted products is considered wrong."
So I asked which "everyone" and is it anybody whose opinion you value.
Question Author
@woofgang Not just dolls, but I've seen males around where I live teasing other males for listening to female singers/boy bands singers/male pop singers like JB & JT because they said its for girls.

Heck, I remember my mom & my sister trying to convince my nephew to not play with the barbie dolls in my house (because I had 3 nieces) because they said "its only for girls. Your a boy, you should play with boy toys." Plus, I once thought about buying a DVD of "The Little Mermaid", but my mom said "no son, its okay to like the movie but its weird to have a DVD of the movie because only girls should have the DVD. It looks kind of girly."
okay so your parents are idiots.....no reason for you to listen to them
Question Author
@woofgang Please don't be mean to them (besides, my dad is actually open minded). It's just what my mom usually sees 99% of the time (girls playing with Barbies & have Disney Princess Movies). She finds it weird that being a guy, I actually like that kind of stuff.

It goes back to what you said: Marketing Intent! It's what the marketer intended to make those products appeal to female. So of course, a male associating himself with it just seems rather unusual and out of place.
