So says ED, very fine words from one who admits Labour got it wrong, but I wonder how he is going to 'police' this, will immigrants have to speak in English at border control or risk being turned back?

Just got into a heated discussion round at my Son in Law's house and he was banging on about democracy and free speech. Does he have a point?

I recall some years ago when we had an influx of refugees from the region of Ethiopia. many of whom spoke Tigre.

There were hardly any Court translators / interpreters at the time, and only two or three were available, charging extortionate rates.

It later emerged that all these refugees had been told to speak only Tigre, and that they were getting a kickback from the translators.

I was told that most of them were bilingual in other more common languages, and that English was the major language taught in schools.

Again our politicians are the architects for the failure of the immigration system. The mayor of Calais was spot on.Our benefit hand outs are too generous and attract them like magnets to our shores.Bet you ask any immigrant at Lampedusa what their goal was and they would say "UK"
Our politicos must immediately stop giving immigrants the impression our streets are paved in gold.

They could start with young English people. I live abroad and it shames me to hear my countrymen and women speak.
