Yes I noticed that when I answered it .. Not sure if was a typo. Also the 2240 is the amount of pounds in a British ton so perhaps the setter has mixed up a clue
Scratch that I think it is 2240 yards in an Irish mile
historically, the "Irish Mile" was a measurement of distance that was in use in Ireland but (like so many other miles) diverted from the English standard mile (the "Statute Mile" set down in 1593). In Elizabethan times, four Irish miles were reputed to add up to five English miles. In the 17th century, the Irish Mile was 2,240 yards or 2,048 metres.
