if you paint primer over it, you will have a pink bleed even if you try three coats - so, one coat, sand down and then a white shellac I believe to stop the bleed. This is an acrylic and you will need acetone for your brush...........
Question Author
shellac ?
Question Author
right..thanks for link melv.... so ...

rub down
shellac
undercoat
gloss

that right ?
Just sand and use a primer / undercoat
You've got it minty. A light rub-down and tack-off between coats will help to get a good finish. I would also buy some meths to wash your brush out during and after applying the primer....it's shellac based & dries very quickly.
that's it, mints....shed hook all done for ozzy now...?

is it a nice wood floor as I think it's a shame to cover up with carpets - strip back, good wax if pine/elm/maple/oak and lots of rugs......
I'm up in your part of the world this summer. Orkney is my destination, I'm really looking forward to it, but not the 600 miles car trip.
Minty, mahogany is lovely
And I'm desperate to get rid of my oatmeal carpet for a wood floor :-)

I love the Scapa Flow scotch, the best Orcadian produce.....
My kids have been bought up with wooden floors which means they've never really mastered the art of being careful!
Ordinary emulsions won't do this. You need a white stain block paint and then maybe several coats. Good luck!
