My neighbour has the most gorgeous tree in his garden with, mostly
pink, and white blossom.
When I complimented him on it's splendour he told me that it was
actually a native of Japan & not really British.

Could he be referring the the Japanese Cherry blossom as the tree
doesn't really look the same?

Loveliest of trees, the cherry now Is hung with bloom along the bough, And stands about the woodland ride Wearing white for Eastertide. Now, of my threescore years and ten, Twenty will not come again, And take from seventy springs a score, It only leaves me fifty more. And since to look at things in bloom Fifty springs are little room, About the woodlands I will...

Sorry Tilly my knowledge of technology doesn't extend to posting
pictures.

Is there a 'local' tree which is similar to the Japan Cherry Blossom?

Many thanks to smurf & woofgang. You weren't there when I started
posting to tilly.

I'll google both suggestions - thanks Very much
some times pink and white trees are grown together to get that pink and white blossom effect. Are the flowers themselves pink and white or are they individually pink or white?
Question Author
Yes that's it Tilly.

Stunning.
My picture is a Japanese Cherry Blossom. :-)

All I know is that when I exit my front door & see it my heart lightens.
How lovely. Enjoy it whilst it lasts.

Sorry Tilly (about the BA) but woofgang has just captured my feelings.
I know some nice poems!
A great deal of the ornamental cherries originate from Japan, Prunus kanzan is probably one of the most popular varieties.

Prunus serrula, the Tibetan cherry is one of my favourites, it has unusual bronzey flaky bark as well as good blossoms.
Houseman is very good at nailing feelings very simply.
Very true, woof. A lovely poem you chose there.
