Well with some of them as they look decayed and likely he had gum recession too - it's possible they were loose.

It is an awful state of affairs though isn't it?

A few of my teeth have sheared off over time but they'd been filled so the only pain I felt was in the pocket when I had to pay a dentist to make replacements.
