On Celebrity Family Fortunes recently, the family of a Coronation street actress won, and they announced that their chosen charity was 'Out There' Supporting Families Of Prisoners in Manchester.

Of all the worthy charities there are, they chose to give the money to families of criminals.

Can this be fair?

As long as the charity can make the judgement call on that ummmm, I'm fine with it.

Maggie. I can see that in some situations the family are left distraught and suffering. but the ' criminal' it would appear has no thought for his family when commiting the crime ?
For goodness sake. Maybe the criminal committed a crime because there was no food on the table to feed the children.

People in prison are not all offending drug addicts robbing innocent people to get their fix!!
ummmm. if there is no food on the table for the children. we have food banks for those situations.
Not everywhere, Ann, and not available to everyone!!!
To return to the question, there's no 'fair' involved.
The contestants win and give to the organisation of their choice.
The rest is just hot air.
Yes -i can well believe the low life who tried to steal our Quad a few months ago did it to feed his family. Of course the 'lovely chaps' found trying to load our mini digger onto their trailer pulled by a £50K top of the range Landrover at 5am in the morning was doing it so his family could have bread and jam for tea that night. Get real! People go to prison because they have committed a crime and either a very bad one or minor crimes over and over again.

So you're judging every person in prison by the people that have had a negative effect on your life?

Cool....you do that.

(why rehabilitation doesn't work so well)
Prisons ARE NOT full of career criminals. THEY ARE full of people with drink/drug problems and most of those also have mental health issues. People DO go to prison for debt. Get fined for a minor offence, cant pay, go to prison.
I can think of more deserving causes, but their money their choice.
Ummm you obviously have a more intimate and learned knowledge of the types that frequent prison,so I'l leave it there. As I said -people can do what they like with their money.
A family could be in a situation where they've lived a normal decent life for years, have a family supported by dad then dad (or mum) is sent to prison for a crime committed years ago that the spouse and family never knew about.
That does happen.
