I recall having a meal in her restaurant in central London during the early 70's.

Quite why John left her for Ono I have never been clear on.

RIP Cynthia.

Here is her Wiki entry, for those that might be interested ::::

She lived a very full life it would seem.
She always came across on tv as very grounded mikey.
RIP Cynthia
To be honest - I never could stand John Lennon
Working class hero - my Yabbie
Quite agree, Ric.ror.

He was a politically naive individual who displayed a remarkable degree of arrogance when spouting his philosophy. he undoubtedly went off his rocker when the Beatles got mixed up with the Maharishi Bagwash (or whatever his name was) and it seems he never recovered, his lack of recovery being adequately assisted by the ludicrous Yoko Ono. Most of his and McCartney's songs were poor, with one or two of them bordering on the mediocre (demonstrating that in the world of pop music you can fool most of the people most of the time). The city of Liverpool naming an airport after him says it all.

I believe the first Mrs Lennon was well shot of him.

His songs were not up to much
He was a disgraceful father to his first son and Julian has not a lot of good things to say about him
^^^ LOL.....you got that off your chest NJ........;-)

NJ...I agree with some of what you say, but not the bit about "Most of his and McCartney's songs were poor, with one or two of them bordering on the mediocre" Sergeant Pepper was a seminal event on the history of popular music.
## Most of his and McCartney's songs were poor, with one or two of them bordering on the mediocre ##

MOST songs were POOR!!!!!!

That must be the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard, and also for many millions around the World.

Even in Country's where people didn't understand English lyrics, they were hugely popular, and they had so many hits around the World, their popularity will never be seen again!

'' Something '' Is the most covered song ever recorded by other artist.

I take it your not a fan then NJ?
Sorry mikey, went off the Q then.

Cynthia had a few husbands didn't she?
Good on John for returning his M.B.E as a protest about the Vietnam war.
trt - admirable as your support for the Fab Four is, you need to cite a better example of Lennon-McCartney craft - Something was written by George Harrison!!

Its OK trt ! you expressed my feelings pretty well. We all have different tastes in music....I am a big Wagner fan for instance. But what NJ said came as a bit of shock all the same.
The most covered Beatles song is Yesterday.
They may have been popular, trt, but that does not reflect their quality. Lots of the music of today is popular but most of it rhymes with pony and trap. MacDonalds hamburgers are popular - so that should demonstrate what I mean. The Beatles were of their time. They filled a hole when pop music was somewhat of an addiction to young people. They seized the opportunity that Mr Epstein laid before them and good luck to them for that. Of course the quality of all music is subjective but I believe there were a number of far more talented groups around in the 60s (and a lot less so, it has to be said) which made the success of the Beatles hard to understand.

But, back to Mr Lennon the reason I believe he left the first Mrs Lennon was because he went a bit "strange" on LSD.
There must have been something odd about him to leave Cynthia for Yoko! Why would you?

I was never a Beatles fan anyway, agree with NJ regarding the quality of their music. Preferred the Rolling Stones.
What was her claim to fame besides being the ex wife of John Lennon?

There was something odd about him, ladybirder. I don't think the drugs he got into did him any favours but I think he was a bit odd without them.

I sometimes do shock people with my opinions, Mikey. I very often dislike what is otherwise extremely popular. As another example I cannot stand Elvis Presley and simply don't get why many people adore "the King". If asked to describe his talents I would say that on a good night he might, just might, have made a half decent karoake singer in my local - provided I'd had a good few. Oh, and I can't stand karoake either!
