im trying to give up the beer , i was drinking most days beer only but its still alcohol, i have been to gym 2 days last week, i want to bring my fitness levels up the same as 2 years ago when i was running and training everyday but i just dont seem to have the energy anymore or the motivation .

what gets you motivated ? its not just the gym i also want to turn my life around and plan for new job ,new life etc.

diesel, when you run , do you run alone? Personally I would think running with someone like-minded, possibly a local group would keep you more motivated?
Even a walking group, walkings great!
Can you speak to the tutors at the gym? They may know of others in a similar position, group motivation can be really helpful.
I agree bottoms regards group motivation. I'd try local groups still. Try 'Streetlife' for your area diesel. Google Streetlife.

power walking ? naaaaaaaaa im a 47 year old guy lol
Powerwalking with an ipod with really bouncy music got me going for the first time in my life. Really toned me up and lifted my spirits.
diesel .. & I'm 56. Walking is brilliant for fitness. Google Streetlife / join .. & ask about local fitness groups. There's no better incentive I would have thought.
