One or two clues to go. Hope this does not sound like a rant but this week is simply not a literary crossword. Really crap cryptic clues that are not intrinsically literary. What is going on? And the answers provide groans galore in this household.

2 Antic (?) - a buffoon, clown; "Bottom" in "AMND" eg. If it's right, I can't see the rest of the parse, sorry but it's getting late!

Regarding your dissatisfaction with the puzzle, I can only suggest writing to the TLS Editor - I never look at it & only see clues that are asked here.

TLS 1066 was very much like this one with very few "literary" clues - perhaps there are now 2 setters??

If this is the answer then it throws out one answer I had that I thought was right."It's gotten to be the least worse option" is the clue and the answer is Democratism. Churchill said it and it chimes with other clues. Curiouser and curiouser as Alice said.

On my screen it is showing that this correspondence has been reporeted. I checked on a friend's screen and it is not showing this. I think somebody has taken exception to my original comments.. Guess it is only showing up on my screen as I was the originator. Tant pis!

The word 'report 'appears bottom right of every post to enable people to report any abuse etc - and it doesn't inform you if anyone has done so.

There has been nothing untoward on this thread to cause any report.

Strange another members screen doesn't show it.
