Is It Reasonable ...?

... To ask to be treated by a different doctor at a hospital clinic appointment? If so, should I make this request upon arrival or wait and see who we get and then say? Thanks.

Ok, but he didn't have an infection when he went there (well, not one that was mentioned). I will ask about the antibiotics tomorrow.

Just checked with the boy and the doctor told him they were giving him antibiotics to fight the infection that he was going to make because they had made a hole in his ear. Will get clarification tomorrow.

Just seen this post, Sherrardk and wanted to say how sorry I felt for you all.

As others have said, yes, you are perfectly entitled to ask for another Doctor to see your son at his next appointment.
Ask the nurse in charge of the Outpatient clinic if you can either see a particular Doctor if you knwo which one it is that you want to see or NOT to see a particular Doctor.
Be polite and explain what happened and that your boy was left in a lot of pain after his last visit and I am sure you will not have a problem.
If, by any chance, there is a problem and you are shown in to see the same Doctor who gave you the trouble last time, just say that you do not want this person treating your child, can you see someone else,please. Then keep repeating that until you see someone else.
Stay polite, don't lose it, just keep asking for what you want and do not enter into any discussion about it.

Quick up date - when we arrived I spoke to a member of staff and said I didn't want my son to see yesterday's doctor. Saw the registrar in the end who asked us to explain what had happened - was a bit odd as a lady (I think she was a member of the nursing staff) sat in the corner of the room, not taking notes or passing the doctor anything. Got to go back next week and the doctor said it was too early to tell if the hole was caused by the 'bad technique used'.

Thank you - he's my eldest (14 years old) and towers over me but you still feel awful for them (he was trying v hard to be nonchalant, I would have been v nervous if it had been me).

I hope he feels better soon. sounds like the ? nurse was being used as a witness.? the doctor should have introduced you to any other person in the examination room .

Very glad to hear that this visit went better than the firstone, Sherrardk.
There really should never be a problem about asking to either see or not see a different Dr at hospital as long as it is done politely.

The other person in the room could have been anyone. Nurse, student nurse, student doctor, student OT, etc etc.
As anne says, they should have been introduced to you....and you would have been perfectly entitled to both ask who they were andfor them to leave.....but often hospital staff 'forget' to do the introductions.
