Only if they are fertilised eggs.

So no-one knows what those dark specks are in the yolks ?
Sorry, I didn't answer the question.

If you mean flecks around the yolk they are probably blood spots. If they are actually in the yolk I have no idea.

Thanks Mammylyn and Eccles. Now I know what they are. I think I will continue to remove them, but apparently it also means the eggs are fresh. Good!
the little black spots are provoked by the rupture of a blood vessel on the yolk surface whilst being formed. They do not affect the quality of the egg, and are perfectly safe to eat.
Hope you didn't mind the link , far easier than copying it - perfectly safe and of course more common in organically sourced eggs, enjoy.

Scrambled eggs
What does an evil hen lay?
Deviled eggs
Where do tough chickens come from?
Hard-boiled eggs
What did the egg say to the boiling water?
I don't think I can get hard - I just got laid this morning!

Not amusing egg jokes:
//It's wrong to eat eggs. They are the unborn children of chickens//
